About Hillingdon’s figures
No council in England has a larger share of its homes in Band D than Hillingdon. 47,520 of the borough's 119,070 properties, 39.9%, fall in that band, more than in any other band locally. Band C is the next largest group with 24.3%. At the bottom, Band A is almost absent: 1,320 homes, or 1.1%, the 10th smallest Band A share in England.
Hillingdon's 2026/27 Band D charge, £2,045.46, therefore applies to more of its homes than any other band charge. Last year it was £1,952.38, so the increase is £93.08, which is 4.8%. Hillingdon stands 287th nationally and 25th among London's 32 boroughs, 15.2% below the simple mean of English councils.
The borough's own element is £1,534.95 (75.0%). The Greater London Authority accounts for the other £510.51, or 25.0%, a precept that also carries London's Metropolitan Police and its firefighters, which is why Hillingdon's bill names no police or fire figure separately. Its figures include no parishes.
Collection is another point of difference. Hillingdon's return assumes it will gather 99% of the money due; 31 English councils assumed more, but no London borough did. Its tax base comes to 107,349 Band D equivalents.
Above Band D, bands E to H hold 29.2% of homes. A Band E home pays £2,500.01 in 2026/27 and a Band C home £1,818.19.
Band D is the band the national tables use to compare councils. In Hillingdon it is £2,045.46 a year. Across the 296 councils in England the simple average of Band D is £2,410.97, and 9 of them charge less than Hillingdon.
The dearest Band D in England is Dorset at £2,765.02; the cheapest is Wandsworth at £1,028.21.
