About Knowsley’s figures

Five pieces make up a Knowsley Band D bill of £2,488.25. The largest by far is the council's, £2,028.94, about 81.5% of it; within that sits £38.65, the adult social care precept Knowsley added for 2026/27. Next in size is policing, £293.97, then fire, £101.25; trailing behind is a combined authority charge of £24.00. Knowsley's five parishes bring an average of £40.09.

Knowsley shares its three outside charges, worth £419.22 together, with Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral. Within the five-council group, Knowsley's Band D is the second lowest: only St Helens charges less.

The Band D headline describes few Knowsley homes. Over half of Knowsley's 72,610 properties (38,430) belong to Band A, whose charge this year is £1,658.83, and almost nine in ten sit somewhere in bands A to C. Just 5,100 homes, 7.0%, are Band D. Barely 500 properties reach bands F, G or H: 340, 140 and 20.

Taken at Band D, the charge rose £116.97, or 4.93%, on 2025/26. As everywhere in England, Knowsley's Band A equals two thirds of its Band D.

Set against its partners, Knowsley trails Liverpool's £2,673.59 by £185.34 and stays £84.87 above St Helens at £2,403.38. Parish precepts weigh more here than in Sefton: at £40.09, Knowsley's parish average is more than twice Sefton's £18.49. The combined authority's £24.00, by contrast, is under 1% of the bill.
