About Sandwell’s figures

Few places in England have housing so concentrated in the lowest bands as Sandwell. Of 137,180 homes, 91.7% are in bands A to C, a share topped by only two English councils. Band B is unusually large, at 44,730 homes or 32.6%; just nine councils have a bigger share in that band. Band A holds 59,380 (43.3%), Band D 7,700 (5.6%), and the four upper bands only 2.7%, with 40 Band H homes.

Sandwell's Band A charge, the one applying to the largest group of its homes, is £1,496.31. Sandwell's Band D has reached £2,244.46 after a £111.01 increase (5.20%); just 30 English councils ask less.

Both outside charges are at the low end nationally. Sandwell's £244.50 police precept is above only six councils' amounts outside London, and its £85.19 fire precept is the lowest separate fire precept in the table, a floor shared with six other councils. Among the seven with that pairing, Sandwell ranks fifth by Band D. Sandwell's own council retains £1,914.77, roughly 85p of each pound, including £36.48 of adult social care precept added for 2026/27, and Table 10 lists no parishes here.

Among the seven councils that share Sandwell's police and fire figures, Walsall is the dearest at £2,627.48 and Dudley the cheapest at £2,144.84. Together, the two outside bodies take £329.69, or 14.7% of the Band D figure. A Band H bill in Sandwell is £4,488.92 for the year, exactly twice Band D.
