About Slough’s figures
Only five English councils have a Band D closer to the 296-council simple average than Slough. Its £2,414.44 lies just £3.47 above that average of £2,410.97, after an increase of £115.89 (5.04%) on the year before.
Of that sum, Slough's council holds on to £2,019.05, a little under 84p in each pound, £38.46 of which is the adult social care precept added for the year. Policing (£298.28) and fire (£91.31) are shared, to the penny, with Bracknell Forest, Reading, West Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead and Wokingham. In that group of six Slough ranks fourth: Reading tops the six, £198.33 above Slough, while Windsor and Maidenhead, lowest of the six, comes in £461.82 below it. Slough has three parishes too, averaging £5.80.
Slough's housing is unusually concentrated in Band C, which holds 24,510 of the 57,570 properties, about 43%. Only four English councils have a larger share in that band. Band D comes second (23.8%) and Band B third (19.1%), so bands C and D together cover two homes in three, and the bills of most Slough households fall between £2,146.17 and £2,414.44.
Both ends of the scale are nearly empty. Band A, priced £1,609.63, takes in 1,560 homes, under 3% of the total; Band G holds 360 and Band H just 10. Because Band C holds so many homes, the £268.27 gap between Slough's Band C and Band D bills separates its two largest groups of households. Policing and fire together take £389.59 of the Band D total, a little over 16%.
Band D is the band the national tables use to compare councils. In Slough it is £2,414.44 a year. Across the 296 councils in England the simple average of Band D is £2,410.97, and 128 of them charge less than Slough.
The dearest Band D in England is Dorset at £2,765.02; the cheapest is Wandsworth at £1,028.21.
