About Trafford’s figures

Only Shropshire and North Somerset pushed up Band D more steeply than Trafford this year. Trafford's charge jumped from £2,122.54 to £2,291.70, an increase of £169.16 that works out at 7.97%, while the typical English council, on a simple average, added 4.78%. Spread across the usual ten monthly instalments, Trafford's extra cost comes to roughly £16.92 a month.

Despite that jump, Trafford still sits in the cheaper part of the English league. Forty-eight councils ask less, and Trafford remains £119.27 beneath the simple English average.

Trafford's council retains £1,850.54 of each Band D bill, about four-fifths, with this year's £34.43 of adult social care precept inside it. Policing, at £285.30, and the combined authority, at £153.95, take the rest, two charges that recur penny for penny in nine more councils. Within that group, Stockport stands £327.20 above Trafford and Wigan, the one council lower, £139.02 beneath it. Three of its four parishes set a precept, adding £1.91 more on average.

Trafford's housing reaches into the dearer bands. Band C is the most crowded, with 27,790 homes or just over a quarter, while Band B holds 22.2% and Band A 19.2%. Band D itself covers 15,640 homes. At the top, Trafford counts 4,230 Band G properties and 1,070 Band H ones, the latter billed £4,583.40 for 2026/27, exactly twice the Band D amount. Policing and the combined authority between them claim £439.25 of each Trafford Band D bill, nearly a fifth (19.2%).
